Ajman - Ajman introduced three more abra stations, transported 89,717 passengers amid Covid-19

Abras transported a total of 89,717 passengers in Ajman with strict precautionary measures amid Covid-19, according to officials.

The water transporting system in the emirate helped passengers overcome the crisis when the public transportation was closed completely and partially due to restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19, said Rasha Khalaf Al Shamsi, executive director of the Projects Development and Support Services Sector at the Ajman Public Transportation Authority (APTA).

She said the authority applied rapid and innovative solutions and precautionary measures that comply with international standards to ensure the safety of passengers and abra drivers.

Al Shamsi added that a ride on traditional abras costs as low as Dh2 in Ajman. The authority has opened three new abra stations as part of the second phase of its marine transportation strategy. “Each abra can accommodate up to 20 passengers. They operate from 6am to 8pm.

"The maritime transport system in the emirate has contributed to encouraging many people to use the public transport system," said Al Shamsi, adding that abra stations are close to the bus stations to facilitate movement between different means of transport.
