Bahrain has authorised the emergency use of Johnson and Johnson’s Covid-19 vaccine.
Janssen Covid-19 vaccine is the fifth vaccine authorised in Bahrain to be administered for emergency use. It will be offered to people most at risk to develop severe symptoms of Covid-19 if infected, such as the elderly, those with chronic diseases and other groups identified by health authorities.
Dr Mariam Adhbi Al Jalahma, chief executive of the National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA), said an in-depth study has been conducted on all documents provided by the producing company on the clinical trials of the vaccine.
The vaccine is given in one shot and provides a great protection against serious infection with COVID-19, the ministry said in a statement.
Oman's minister of health on Thursday also confirmed that the Sultanate has booked 200,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. He assured that the country would not authorise any vaccine until it had confirmed its "safety and security".
