It’s been a trying time for almost everyone during the Covid pandemic and like us, you’re no doubt in dire need of some laughs. Two of India’s prominent stand-up female comedians are heading to Dubai to provide you with a double dose of humor that will definitely brighten up your weekend.
The show conceptualized by Colors TV is dedicated to Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8. Hosted by the UAE’s Imah, comedians Neeti Palta and Sumukhi Suresh will tickle your funny bone at Emirates Theatre, Jumeirah on March 5. The event will be hosted according to the social distancing norms set by the DHA amidst the pandemic.
Veteran comic and screenwriter Neeti who appeared in Amazon Prime’s comedy web series Almost Sanskari in 2019 was awarded Best Standup Comic at the RAW Oz Fest India, and was also the first stand up comic to perform at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. She will take the stage with Sumukhi Suresh, who recently thrilled us (and made us look over our shoulder more than once) with darkly comic web series Pushpavalli.
Sumukhi tells City Times that audiences can expect “lots of excitement and lots of jokes” from the duo’s Dubai show. “It’s my first international show after the pandemic and I cannot wait to give it my best,” she adds.
When we ask Sumukhi who is known for her deadpan, satirical humor how it feels to be referred to as India’s Tina Fey, she cracks us up. “You should ask Tina Fey, how does that make her feel because I can assure you she will say “Sumukhi is who and a what now?”
And apparently, the funniest joke she’s ever heard is “that I am India’s Tina Fey.”
Sumukhi hopes the show tagged as a Women’s Day Fest draws female audiences from more than one generation. She says the best reaction she has ever got to a stand-up act is a standing ovation. “It always makes you happy! But I particularly love it when girls come with their mothers for the show and have a blast together!”
Fans of Pushpavalli are eager to see Sumukhi on screen once more and she reveals there are “exciting things coming on Netflix soon.”
“Plus I am writing shows for Indian and international audience, hopefully that gets picked up. Apart from that if you think Spielberg is looking to cast someone as a dinosaur, I am right here,” she signs off in trademark hilarious style as she gives a shout out to UAE fans to “COME FOR THE SHOW”!
