The sons of Dr Dhananjay (Jay) Datar, chairman and managing director of Al Adil Trading, also known as the 'Masala King', one of the UAE's leading names for Indian food-stuff, are keen to follow in their father's footsteps and develop the business further. Rohit and Hrishikesh Datar's present objective is to soak as much knowledge as possible from their father who has been in the business for decades. As the third generation of their family to reside in the country, they believe their future resides in the UAE. Hrishikesh touts that the reason for Al Adil's success is never straying from their goal of making their customers happy by continuously expanding their product portfolio to accommodate customers' demands. "We are always looking for new verticals for the expatriate population. This venture of ours has recently taken a shine in the pandemic with de-livery partners, e-commerce, and the expansion of our new brick-and-mortar retail store," he said.

Introducing Innovations

During the pandemic, both Rohit and Hrishikesh spearheaded the onboarding of the UAE's leading delivery apps. Their custom-ers saw minimal stock-outs and timely deliveries as well as new platforms to purchase Indian items that are solely available at Al Adil. They have also revamped the Al Adil website for which they have received several compliments for its user-friendliness and extensive Indian product range.

Future plans

The brothers are far-sighted and see a bright future ahead for the company. "African and European countries have been of key interest. There is a big proportion of the Indian population in these countries and Al Adil is a home away from home for all Indians. Eventually, we see us becoming a worldwide success story for all hard-working Indian expatriates," said Rohit.
